· About this route

Heidelberg → Stuttgart Airport

Heidelberg to Stuttgart Airport is 130 kilometres, the longest corridor we run as a fixed-price transfer and the one where leaving early is arithmetic rather than instinct. Typical drive time is 80 to 100 minutes. The people who book it are rarely sightseers: research staff and patients from Im Neuenheimer Feld, engineers rotating off a Rhein-Neckar software project, conference delegates, and travellers whose flight simply happens to leave from STR. The university, the Universitätsklinikum and the institutes around them keep the corridor busy all year; the Schloss and the Altstadt do the rest in summer.

For a departure we plan backwards from the flight. Book the pickup three and a half hours before scheduled departure for a Schengen flight, four hours for long-haul or the school-holiday weeks: 80 to 100 minutes on the road, plus about 90 minutes at the airport for check-in and security, and the rest as margin — on a slow morning that margin is thin, so take the four hours if you would rather not watch the clock. The driver arrives a few minutes before the booked time and calls only if the entrance is ambiguous. A 03:00 pickup costs exactly what a 15:00 pickup costs — there is no night tariff on this route.

Pickup points that work in practice: the Hauptbahnhof forecourt, the riverside hotels in Bergheim, Im Neuenheimer Feld for the clinics and institutes, or any address in Handschuhsheim, Rohrbach or Kirchheim. The Altstadt is the exception — the Hauptstraße is a pedestrian zone, so we meet at Karlstor, Universitätsplatz or the Marstall side and walk the last few metres with your bags. Fixed prices are 579,90 € Standard, 693,90 € Van and 806,90 € Premium S-Class, 19 % VAT included, charged to your card at booking.

· 03 · Common questions

What travellers ask before this booking.

How early should the car collect me in Heidelberg?

Work backwards from the flight, not forwards from your alarm. For a Schengen departure, book the pickup three and a half hours before scheduled departure; for long-haul or the peak holiday weeks, four. That covers 80 to 100 minutes of driving, 90 minutes for check-in and security, and a margin for the Walldorf interchange, which thickens on weekday mornings between roughly 06:30 and 08:30.

Which way does the driver go?

South out of Heidelberg on the A5 to the Walldorf interchange, then east on the A6, south on the A81 and onto the A8 for the last stretch to the airport — 130 kilometres, nearly all of it motorway. If the A6 is blocked by roadworks or an incident, dispatch keeps the driver on the A5 further south towards Karlsruhe and picks up the A8 from there instead, or simply starts earlier. Neither decision changes the price you agreed at booking.

Where exactly does the car stop at the airport?

The driver pulls onto the departures level and unloads at the kerb, staying until you have every bag in hand. No parking fee, no airport surcharge, no tip expected. The four terminals sit side by side in one connected building, so it is a short walk to whichever one you need: your check-in desk number tells you which, the first digit being the terminal number, and the screens at the entrances show which desk your flight is using.

Why does a transfer to STR cost this much?

579,90 € Standard, 693,90 € Van, 806,90 € Premium S-Class — each figure includes 19 % VAT and airport access, with nothing added for night hours, luggage or paying by card. The price reflects 130 kilometres in each direction, because the car drives up to Heidelberg empty before it carries you to the airport. It is charged per vehicle, not per seat: four colleagues travelling together split 579,90 € between them.

Which class do I need for my group and its luggage?

Standard carries up to 4 passengers with 3 suitcases. Premium S-Class has the same capacity — 4 passengers, 3 suitcases — in a larger, quieter car, which some people want for a 90-minute run. Van carries 8 passengers and 8 suitcases and is the honest answer for a family, a ski trip or conference material. Child seats have their own stepper in the booking form and cost nothing; each one occupies a passenger seat and counts towards the vehicle total, and if your group plus the seats outgrows the class, the form moves the booking up to the Van by itself. There is no age field, and nothing needs to be written in the notes.

What if the trip is cancelled or the time shifts?

Cancel more than 24 hours before pickup and the full amount is refunded. Between 6 and 24 hours the refund is 50 %; under 6 hours, or if nobody is at the pickup point, there is no refund. Smaller changes — a different Heidelberg address, a pickup moved by an hour — are handled by calling or messaging the dispatch number on your confirmation, at no cost.

Should I give you my flight number?

Yes, in the flight-number field. It tells dispatch what the actual deadline is and how much slack the pickup has, and it helps if we need to reach you on the day. What it does not do is trigger live flight tracking: we deliberately run no flight-data feed, which is why on the return leg into Heidelberg we ask you to book roughly 45 minutes after the scheduled landing.
